Prescriptive Exercise

Prescriptive exercise is an exercise program that is specific to a musculoskeletal problem in the same way that a medication treats a specific disease or symptom.

In essence, prescriptive exercise is physical activity focused on a specific therapeutic goal. It does not rely on protocols that assign a series of predetermined exercises to patients with similar diagnoses . Exercises are customized to create movement in a specific direction, activate stabilizing muscles or reinforce a mobilization. Therapists should be able to tell you the purpose of each exercise they give, and how it relates to the manual treatment you receive.
